Way Back When

Way Back When………….

I am sure there are now many more options for a girlie night out than there were last time around. I was lucky enough to start my “going out career” at Stormes. I never got to meet Ron Storme however as he was in ill health. What a fabulous little club that was and a beautiful introduction to the scene. That said, its location, at the back of a pub in the East End of London was a bit scary. I have never quite understood it actually, a lot of places to go in London appeared to be out East. I thought that of all the places for a lack of tolerance to what we do would be there. I didn’t come across any, but I have heard that others were not as lucky.

The WAYOUT CLUB would be a “National Treasure” if it were an actor. Wigs off to Vicky Lee who founded the club in 1993 with the late Steffan Whitfield. My first time was in 2001 and was a regular during my time out on the scene. The club is an institution. I visited again last year a couple of times, this time held at the Minories in City of London, and was welcomed back as if I d never been away. A club I would love to visit more but with prices to stay in London these days it makes it an expensive ni

ght out. We also had a lovely club back then, Transmission. A new vibrant club that went on for a couple of years I recall. Lovely vibe. It’s a shame that one closed. I suppose finding a venue suitable and regular is quite difficult in this day and age. The advantage I suppose in the Ea

st and City of London, it mainly closes down at weekends as it s really a business area. Bars that thrive all week with the City Folk are closed at the weekend, unless they can be persuaded to host a club night. (anyone fancy it) Then there was the Philbeach Hotel, Legends were made there. This Earls Court Monday night hotspot was the place to go. I don’t know how I managed to attend so many Monday night events. Did I actually take most Tuesdays off work? I really cant’ remember which is a bit sad… it’s the age.
